Composite reference architectures

A composite reference architecture brings several reference architectures together into a single blueprint — for example an edge pattern, an event-driven core, and an analytics platform that together make up your commerce platform.

Composite reference architectures are available on the Enterprise plan.

1. Create a composite

Open Composite RefArchs in the sidebar and choose + New Composite RefArch. Every composite has:

  • Diagram (required) — Mermaid source for the whole composite, without ```mermaid fences. A live preview renders beside the editor; use Add example diagram to start from a sample.
  • Reference architectures — search by ref ID or title and pick the reference architectures this composite is built from. Your picks are listed below the search box with their status; remove one with its × button.
  • Body — Markdown, pre-filled from your workspace's composite template.

2. Save drafts freely

A draft can be saved with any number of reference architectures in any status, so you can sketch a composite while its parts are still being written.

3. Propose for review

To propose (or resubmit) a composite, it must include at least two published reference architectures. If it doesn't, ArchForge tells you which parts are still unpublished. Review then follows the usual Draft → Proposed → Published lifecycle.

4. Reading a composite

A composite page shows its diagram first, then a Composed of panel for each reference architecture with its own diagram and status. A part that has since been deprecated or superseded is flagged Retired. Each reference architecture page lists the composites that use it under Used in composites.

List and diagram views

The composites list can be shown as a table or as diagram panels; ArchForge remembers your choice in this browser.
